HELP!! 20 POINTS!
Over the next few units, you'll begin the process of creating your own miniature newspaper,
newscast, or podcast. You'll be responsible for creating an ad, a news story, a feature story,
and an opinion piece. In this activity, you'll begin the process of planning the first of those
articles
Choose a news topic that is of interest to you. For this assignment, it's entirely appropriate
for you to find a front-page news story that you are interested in and use it as a place to
start. You should read the story, understand the events (doing additional reading or research
if needed), and be able to summarize the story easily.
Using the following outline worksheet, plan your story. You're responsible for turning in a
completed outline for your news piece, including a finished headline, lead, and introduction
(total of about five sentences-but pay attention to creativity, voice, and interest!) and a bullet
pointed outline for each body paragraph of your story. Each of those bullet pointed
paragraphs (you should have at least three) should contain the facts you need, the quotes
you'll use, and the general direction of each section.
Remember to use the inverted pyramid structure-the most important information first and
the less important details toward the end.
