Read the case study and answer the questions below.
Background/Examination: This 35-year-old male musician was seen in the EENT clinic complaining of a progressive hearing loss over the
past 15 years. He is now unable to hear what is being said if there is any environmental noise present. He
states that he has played with a group of musicians using acoustic instruments and no earplugs for the past 20 years. External ear structures appear normal bilaterally with otoscopy. Tympanometry is normal bilaterally. Audiometric testing reveals diminished hearing bilaterally. Rinne and Weber tuning-fork tests indicate that the patient has a moderate amount of sensorineural hearing loss, but rule out conductive hearing loss. Patient is referred for evaluation for an amplification device.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is moderate bilateral sensorineural hearing loss as a result of prolonged exposure to loud
noise.
State the actions taken in this case. Reflect if these actions are appropriate and why? Were there any consequences of the actions taken?
