Sparta was not much of the people who liked to have " fancy " items such as nice clothes. But what they were more about was getting powerful, and they could do that by invading Athens, Athens was very wealthy because it had fancy clothes and fancy houses if Sparta invaded Athens they could be even more powerful. Since Athens was very more into getting powerful they had one of the best militaries back then. Since Sparata was more about getting powerful and having a good military, that is how they won the war.

Athens and Sparta were very powerful in two different things, Athens was most powerful at being the most " fanciest " nation at that time which they did exceed. Sparta wanted to become the most powerful of those two they had one of the best militaries back then and most importantly they had a good democracy. These are the two differences between Athens and Sparta and the Peloponnesian war shaped them both Athens now knows that they need more of a military to fight Sparta if they ever attack again and Athens knows that they need a good military.
