No this isn’t always the case. For example, a kite is a parallelogram, but if you cut it in half horizontally, both pieces wouldn’t be the same

If any parallelogram is cut along one of the diagonals, we get 2 congruent triangles. We can see that the sides of the triangles are equal. Figure attached.

So, Mary is right.
