When particles are in the solid state of matter, they move at an immensely slow pace since they are all packed closely together. When they are liquid, particles have no solid form, moving loosely. When in a gaseous state, the particles move to fast to take on any specific form. Finally, plasma is similar to gas, except it is made of positively and negatively particles. 

The state of matter in that particles have the least energy is Solid.

Why do Solids have the least energy?

  • A solid forms from liquid or gas because the energy of atoms decreases when the atoms take up a relatively ordered, three-dimensional structure. States of matter.
  • The definition of a solid appears obvious; a solid is generally thought of as being hard and firm.
  • Solids are things where the molecules are all stuck together very tightly in a regular pattern.
  • The molecules move around very little and have a low amount of energy.
  • If you add energy by heating it up, the molecules will move around faster and slide against each other, and it will be a liquid.
  • Molecules in a liquid have more energy than molecules in a solid.
