we know that
x=0.75 g/cm³-----> equation 1
x=0.41+(y/2)-----> equation 2

substitute the equation 1 in equation 2
0.75=0.41+y/2-----> multiply by 2 both sides---> 1.5=0.82+y
y=1.5-0.82----> y=0.68 g/cm³

the answer is
the density of sugar maple wood is 0.68 g/cm³
There are 3 parts to this problem: 

1- let x be=the density of the sugar maple wood 
2- the equation is .75=.5x+.41
3- the density of the sugar maple wood is .68.
