The active site. It is the region on an enzyme that binds to the substance/protein during a reaction. The theory that is most widely accepted is the induced fit theory. It is believed that the active site is changed slightly so the substance to fit. The other theory is the "lock and key theory" which believes that the active site doesn't change.
