Read this excerpt from a letter to the city council: Dear city council members: The city has proposed limiting library hours in order to save money. I understand that the city budget is being challenged at the moment, but no good will come of denying children access to the library after school. Children go to the library to learn and to get help with their homework. As a single parent, I rely on the library as an affordable place where I know my kids will be safe. Of all the programs to cut, the library should not be your first choice. What is the main idea of this letter?

the main idea of this letter is that the library should stay open and not be closed because of their funding being messed with.

The main idea of the passage is that the library is a safe place for students to gather information therefore its schedule should not be cut short in order to reduce the city council's budget.

This parent is actually aware of the budget situation but believes education and security for the students should be a prority to the council therefore urges them to retract the newly proposed limited library hours.
