The Mexican Cession in 1848 and the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 have some similarities, both represented acquisitons of territory for the United States and coincidentally both were obtained by payments of $15 million dollars, to Mexico and France, respectively. The impact of these new territories also have social implications as discussion regarding if the slavery should be legal in these lands were discussed.
