The economy of most of Africa has been characterized as under developed. Africa has an abundant natural resources, even though much of its economy has remained in agricultural and farming of more than 60% percent of the population.

In the beginning of 20th century relied on very simple tools and traditional organization of the family or community for its labour. The poor transportation and communication made it especially for domestic use.

Before the colonization of the African territories, there was no monetary system to manage their economy. People depended mostly on farming and utilizing the agricultural product. They even built their settlement around their farms so that utilize the natural resources the better way. They took colonies as the new market for their finished product. The traders plundered the natural resources and captured the natives to enslave them.
