The Allied leaders met at Potsdam in 1945 after Germany had surrendered to finalize the details of the post-war peace in Europe. However, the meeting was not successful as relationships between the superpowers had been damaged after the meeting at Yalta. Stalin had become increasingly hostile. Roosevelt had died, and Truman was not sympathetic towards the Russians, having tested its first nuclear bomb and believing he did not need Russian help anymore.
