The primary reason why the loss of manufacturing jobs hurt workers was a
result of the high cost of goods ,increase in expenses and increase in
unemployment.
When a country is able to manufacture goods then it simply means a
reduction in import. Import involves bringing in goods and services from
other countries which usually happens at a higher cost.
The loss of the manufacturing jobs thereby gave rise to increase in prices of
goods and services as a result of additional cost accrued from factors such
