So the saying means: to do something immediately while there is still a good chance to do it. (I'm not sure how long this story should be but I'll try make it short)
Jenny was an awesome artist, but had no money she would occasionally borrow money from her friends and use it to buy art supplies but soon enough her friends were tired of it. They told her, they won't b giving her money to buy art supplies anymore! So Jenny knew she had to get a job and earn money to buy herself art supplies! She saw a poster about getting a job and just as she was about to call the number her friend Maria called and said she'd give her some money for the last time, in a rush Jenny ran to get the money and totally forgot about the poster! Soon later the money she got was over and she was in distress again, she remembered the poster and decided this time she will call the number but when she called they told her it was too late and if she had called earlier they would've accepted her! So you see, if Jenny had "struck the lion while it was still hot" (gotten the job earlier while there was chance to do it) she would not be in this situation and would probably have more money. The end.
