What was the dark age in Europe?

This was the period that was between the fall of the Roman empire and the Renaissance period in Europe.

This was the dark age because it was full of a lot of decline in the continent. There was the economic decline, intellectual as well as cultural decline.

The renaissance period was the era that helped to usher them out of this period.
