developed a new antibiotic that could potentially replace penicillin and treat a wide variety of bacterial
infections. To test their theory, the scientists grow Streptococcus pyogenes in petri dishes. S. pyogenes
causes numerous infections in humans, like pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and scarlet fever. These diseases are
normally treated successfully with penicillin. They expose S. pyogenes to their new strain of antibiotic to
determine its effectiveness. What are good positive and negative controls?

The good positive and negative controls can be explained as :

  • Having One tube  containing the new antibiotic  that is about to be tested.
  • Another  tube containing positive control ( The  penicillin that is  known to be killing the bacteria)
  • Another  tube for negative control ( the drug that has neutral effect  on the bacteria)

Positive control and negative controls can be regarded as the controls  that provides the  completely opposite responses as regards an experiment.

The main difference between positive and negative control can be seen in how  positive control  provide a response to the experiment.

It should be noted that negative control on the other hand do not provide any response.
