Humans alter the sulfur cycle by burning fossil fuels.

Sulfur cycle is a biogeochemical cycle. It depicts the movement of sulfur between rocks, water bodies as well as biological systems. Sulfur is released naturally by the process of weathering in rocks. However, certain other activities can also trigger the release of sulfur in the atmosphere e.g. volcanic eruptions, decomposition of organic materials, etc.

Certain human activities such as burning fossil fuels can also affect the sulfur cycle. The sulfur from the rocks gets converted into sulfates when it reacts with air. Sulfates are taken up by plants as well as microbes which convert it into organic forms. This organic form enters the animals through their food and when they die, the sulfur is liberated through decomposition.
