The town of Fremont met recently to discuss the pros and cons of protecting prairie dogs.....
a)Tragedy of the commons is defined as the tendency of a shared limited resource to become depleted because consumers act out of self-interest. Wishing to exterminate all the prairie dogs in one area serves as an example of "tragedy of the commons" because Mr. Smith is basing his decision on self-interest and not considering the fact that the prairie dogs in this area are in danger of becoming extinct.
b)By preserving a small portion of the prairie dog population, the animal would be saved from extinction and enough of the species would remain to eventually rebuild its numbers. Maintaining livestock plays an important role in the economy because it provides direct, daily benefits to its consumers.
c) The Bureau of Land Management sets aside special portions of land for grazing animals.
