The cornea is responsible for most of the refractive power of the eyes.

Cornea is the outer transparent structure of the eye. It acts as an outer cover for the iris and the pupil and allows the entry of light into the eyes. 65-70% of focusing of light into the eyes is done by the cornea. Therefore, an damage in the cornea can result in the distortion of the entering light into the eyes.

Refractive power of the ability of the eyes to focus the incoming light towards it. The normal relaxed eye has a refractive power of around 60 diopters (D). Out of it, the cornea has around 2/3rd of the power i.e., 40 D.
