In this part of the novel, Victor's behavior displays the typical artist archetype of the Romance genre. Romance writers like Shelley would often make their heroes artist who can't help but be passionate about their work. They would highlight the beauty their hero feels when he expresses himself. Victor cutting himself from the world for science is a perfect illustration.
