In 1620, a group of separatists left the Netherlands to live in Virginia, however, storms pushed them off course and they landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts instead. This group is also referred to as the Pilgrims or Pilgrim Fathers. Originally, they left England to and went to the Netherlands but they were not satisfied with the Dutch way of living so they left for North America to establish a new society where everyone shared the same religious beliefs.
