He takes Caliban's freedom and treats him as a slave.

"The Tempest", is a play that was written by William Shakespeare and it is believed to have been published between 1610 and 1611. Although intended to be really a comedy, the play ended up being more of a tragedy and a drama, with some comedy characteristics put in. "The Tempest" tells the story of Prospero, Duke of Milan, who is exiled into an island with his daughter Miranda and his servants, Ariel, a spirit and Caliban, a monster. Through several adventures and a lot of plotting on Prospero´s side, things get resolved when Miranda marries one  of Prospero´s archenemies, Alonso, King of Naples, responsible for their exile, Ariel is set free after having fulfilled his duties and Prospero forgoes his revenge plans. Among the many themes handled in this play, one that really stands out, aside from revenge and the level to which Prospero is willing to sink to in order to exact this revenge, there is also the mention of how inhuman he can get to be when he not only adopts Caliban, a monstrous creature who had lived on the island previously, raises him and then turns him into a slave. Not only that but, while Prospero sets his other servant, Ariel, free, he never has the same consideration for Caliban. This is what makes Prospero a most unsympathetic character.
