the tenth place is the first number to the right of the decimal point, to round to the nearest tenth you need to look at the number to the right of that ( so the 2nd number to the right of the decimal.
3.006, since the 2nd number to the right is 0 the tenth place would stay 0 so it is 3.0
3.06 since the 2nd number to the right of the decimal is a 6 which is greater than 5 you would round the tenth place up 1
so 3.06 becomes 3.1
