Facilitated diffusion is an example of passive diffusion or facilitated transport. This type of transport barely relies on the molecular bonding across the ion channels or carrier protein and the cargo. Moreover, it does not require energy from ATP hydrolysis for transportation. Hence, the term (i.e. passive) implies.
